Maquette de l'Opéra de Pékin
1999 - 2008
"ln this place, one has to enter as though entering another world. From the real, everyday world to the world of fiction." (Andreu)
No doors or windows. No distinction either between a noble facade and a service facade. To enter the Opera House, visitors travel through one of two glass-roofed underground passages that descend beneath the basin and emerge inside the building. Designed with no intermediate point of support, the steel structure had to be resistant to earthquakes, wind and snow. A curved glass roof, 100 metres wide at the base, provides light inside the building.
