The Centre Pompidou is presenting a complete retrospective of the films and videos by Thai filmmaker and artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul, including his eight feature films, the thirty or so short (and rare) films he has made, collective works and two feature films of which he was the producer.

The artist’s works have earned an exceptional place within the contemporary film landscape. Considered one of the most inventive filmmakers of our time, Apichatpong Weerasethakul draws on a wide range of practices – cinema, video, installation, photography, performance, virtual reality – and forges a very unique path: attentive to the living and the contemporary; haunted by dreams, the past and worlds elsewhere, and tracing narrative threads along hallucinated avenues. Apichatpong Weerasethakul started making short films and videos in 1994 and completed his first feature film in 2000. His films and installations are presented at the most prestigious festivals and museums and have received many awards, including the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2021 for Memoria, his first film shot outside of Thailand, with Tilda Swinton. He also received the Palme d’or at Cannes in 2010 for Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. In 2002, Blissfully Yours won the Un Certain Regard prize and Tropical Malady won the Jury Prize in 2004, while Syndromes and a Century (2006) was hailed as one of the best films of the decade in several critical rankings in 2010.
During this event, Apichatpong Weerasethakul is giving a masterclass and making a short film as part of the “Où en êtes-vous ?” (Where are you at?) collection, which will be presented in December at the Centre Pompidou. Many meetings, notably with Tilda Swinton, his Thai actors Jenjira Pongpas and Sakda Kaewbuadee, will accompany the retrospective, as well a collective book titled Apichatpong Weerasethakul - Homes (published by Éditions de l’Œil, in partnership with Éditions du Centre Pompidou).
