"The slightest effort for us is taking a rest from others and from ourselves to watch ourselves from above, laugh and glide through the sky. The slightest effort is indispensable to remain joyful." (Picabia)
ln 1949, art critic Michel Seuphor organised an exhibition entitled "Picabia. Point" ("point" meaning "full stop" in French) comprising a series of illustrations and abstract paintings that featured sets of dots like this one. Against a thickly painted red background, four green dots line up on the bottom and right sides. ln these later works, we can perceive Picabia's jubilatory, provocative spirit. But as Seuphor was quick to point out: "Should there not be a full stop to such effervescence? A half-century of revolution comes to the point of completion here."
