White Over Black III marks the end of an artistic odyssey which lasted over sixty years and whose end is an echo of the beginning.
This work is composed of two superimposed panels and was completed by Ellsworth Kelly shortly before his death. ln line with the artist's monumental works, this vast optical field is a bold statement of pure presence. The rhythm. proportions and counterpoint effect in this culminating articulation of black and white irresistibly attract the eye. ln a rare combination of persistence and renewal, this work is an echo of Window Museum of Modern Art (Paris. Mnam) made by the young Kelly in Paris.
