Le groupe « Champions du monde » est créé à l’automne 1986 par Gya Abramichvili, Andrei Iakhnine, Konstantin Latyshev, Boris Matrossov et Konstantin Zvezdotchetov. A l’occasion de différentes performances, ceux-ci sont rejoints par Vadim Fichkine, Vladimir Chvaioukov, Gor Tchakhal, Igor Zaïdel et beaucoup d’autres. Le groupe est dissout en 1988.
