The movement and fragility of our bodies engage with the inertia and immovability of this block of granite.
ln the mid-1960s, Giovanni Anselmo joined the Arte Povera movement, making works using natural materials such as stone, wood or plant matter. Basing his work on the laws of weight and gravity, he explored notions of tension, energy and eternity. ln this triangular block of granite, a compass is set painting north, the same direction as the tip of the sculpture. Anselmo questions our spatial and bodily bearings faced with the physical presence and weight of this stone.
