CDD IX
1996
Seeking a new photographic objectivity, Patrick Tosani adopts large formats, meticulous staging and sharp clarity in his rendering of forms. He aims to reduce the human body to the status of an object. In the CDD (Corps du Dessous – “bodies from below”) series, he depersonalises his models, standing them on a glass plate to emphasise their materiality. The rigid trousers evoked in the Masques thus associate consumerism with primitivism. These assembled forms echo the advertising aesthetic, while the reduction of titles to numbered initials underlies the serial aspect of the artist’s approach.
