"I also wanted a frame that would be flexible and elastic. By virtue of
the interaction between the taut and elastic elements, this furniture had to offer greater comfort without being massive." (Breuer)
By using metal, Marcel Breuer succeeded in obtaining a stable, ergonomic seat. At the root of the early Bauhaus successes, tubular metal enabled the creation of a flexible elementary structure, combined with an adaptable canvas back that adjusted to the body. Designed for director Erwin Piscator's apartment in Berlin, the Chaise Piscator [Piscator Chair] is very innovative both aesthetically and technically.
