"It all began in the following way: 1 wanted to make things that turn into dust." (Roth)
Dieter Roth became closely acquainted with Daniel Spoerri in 1953 and was subsequently connected with the Fluxus movement, notably creating works with Nam June Paik and George Brecht. The use of organic materials was an important part of his oeuvre, marking a strong interest in the random, unstable and perishable. With its objects hidden under a layer of oil and wax, this collage engages the spectator in an almost archaeological visual excavation. The artist highlights the opposing principles of construction and destruction in order to bring them closer together.
