Souffle de mai 1968
1968
If today Souffles are clearly bearers of a political and revolutionary message, they also offered the public the experience of a participatory work that played on the optical.
A first Souffle de mai was installed in Place Blanche, outside the Moulin Rouge, in June 1968. ln October that year, Fromanger placed a dozen of these Souffles by the Alésia métro station, in front of the church of St-Pierre de Montrouge. Jean-Luc Godard and Pierre Clémenti were there to film the consequences. The police soon arrived to remove and destroy the works and the painter, the filmmaker and the actor were arrested.
