Proposition pour une petite ville
1984
This drawing of an imaginary city on the scale of an object prefigures the postmodern city.
This proposal by Nathalie Du Pasquier and George Sowden resembles an architectural transposition of their décor research. The city they imagined is not so much a Utopia developing toward a form of idealised urbanity. It is rather a questioning of the role of the decorative in so far as it implies the hybrid and non-rational. The architecture leans toward a stage setting, a representation based on the narration of the objects and the expressive dimension of their “decorated surface''.
