Fauteuil Stahlclubsessel B3
(Fauteuil club B3, dit Wassily)
1925
The handlebars of a bicycle were the inspiration for this armchair, also called Wassily.
Between 1925 and 1928, Marcel Breuer managed the joinery workshop of the Bauhaus School in Dessau. He quickly leaned toward industrial materials such as tubular steel. With its inclinable seat and back, this armchair is an example of modern comfort. For its prototype, Breuer called on a plumber and used very resistant cotton canvas for the strapping. Destined for the painter Wassily Kandinsky, this armchair inaugurated the production and standardisation of industrial furniture.
