Composition géométrique
[vers 1927]
Between mathematical sketches and dreamlike geometry, these drawings which the artist described as "Surrealist abstractions", testify to the porosity between two avant-gardes, soon to become enemies.
lnspired by the images he found in Bauhaus books by Paul Klee, Pädagogisches Skizzenbuch, 1925 (Pedagogical Sketchbook) and by Vassily Kandinsky, Punkt und Linie zu Fläche, 1926 (Point and Line to Plane), Léon Tutundjian expanded his vocabulary of geometrical forms. The interplay of dynamic lines and the latent forms of haloes of dots are so many means of expressing space. His work has many points in common with the cosmic abstraction of his friend and mentor, Georgian artist David Kakabadze.
