ln 1963, Ristori began to devote himself to gestural painting with sharp colours and broad brushstrokes.
After studying at the Amiens École des beaux-arts (1954-1956), interrupted by two years of military service in Algeria, François Ristori attended the Beaux-arts in Paris, where he painted what were still very academic landscapes. He was then a resident at the Villa Velasquez in Madrid from 1962 to 1964. During this stay, his pictorial language developed and he began to lean toward abstraction. His painting was then then part of the vast movement of informal art.
