Two films about the conflict between the Ukrainian troops and the pro-Russian separatists ravaging the east of the country since 2014, presaging Russia’s invasion on 24 February 2022, were screened this year at the Berlin International Film Festival: a fiction, Maryna Er Gorbach’s Klondike, and a documentary, Boney Piles, by Taras Tomenko.
The filmmakers, with their respective producers, Mehmet Bahadir Er and Volodymyr Filippov, talked of the consequences of the war currently raging, in dialogue with Radu Jude (Golden Bear award at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival for Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn), presenting Memories From the Eastern Front, a short produced using archives from WWII in Romania.
