Teatro del mondo a Venezia
1979 - 1980
"I designed an "analogous" architecture in Venice, a city which is analogous in itself." (Rossi)
ln 1980, at the first Venice Biennale for architecture, entitled Presenza del Passato and directed by Paolo Portoghesi, Aldo Rossi presented the Teatro del Monda. The idea for this 11Venetian theatre' came from 16th-century ephemeral floating stages on the San Marco Basin. Constructed on a barge, Rossi's building consists of a 20m-high wooden and steel structure, which enters into a dialogue with Venetian buildings and in particular the Punta Dogana, where it is anchored. This theatre has become an international emblem.
