Piazza with Temporary Festival Architecture
2007
In Piazza with Temporary Festival Architecture, the artist draws inspiration from the architecture of Venice, imagining a square in which a magnificent carriage comes to grief on a road running between two triumphal arches. In the foreground, figures in the manner of Caspar David Friedrich witness its undoing, this theatre itself crowned by an elaborately scrolled curtain, which echoes the heavily ornamented frame. The latter is always carefully selected by the artist, sometimes even inspiring the content of the picture.
