Wende 80
1980 - 1981
For Wende 80, conceptual artist Hanne Darboven created a notation system that correlates images, words and numbers with musical notes.
Combining German political news and personal history, these sheets present drawings of trees, music scores, an interview with the German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt published in the magazine Der Spiegel in 1980, and a set of postcards from the artist's home district in Hamburg. These documents were later translated into music by a composer, played by an orchestra and released on vinyl. The work leads to a reflection on the time inherent in writing, reading and listening.
