Wade Guyton, born in 1972, lives and works in New York. He began his career in the late Nineties with sculptures in line with the minimalist movement. He then produced abstract drawings directly on pages torn from design books. After this, with the intention of eliminating the artist’s hand and gesture, he used his printer to create the same drawings with Microsoft Word. In 2004, he produced very large formats using very large inkjet printers, where the linen cloth “struggled” with the machine. In his most recent series, the artist only retains a big “X”, typed in Photoshop, divided into two on the screen to meet the printer’s format constraints. Now his hallmark, the X evokes not only a rudimentary signature but also the famous icon of Malevich’s Black Cross.
