Wade Guyton started making paintings by computer in the mid-2000s, creating large format works by passing linen canvas through a very wide inkjet printer. His latest series features no more than a big X, produced in Photoshop and divided in half on screen to cope with the constraints of printer size. Now one of the artist’s trademarks, the X operates both as symbol of a void and as the signature of an illiterate, a sign the artist calls “dumb”.
