Collage A
1919
The great formal freedom of this collage incited spectators to make free associations of ideas.
This work, whose subtitle contains a homage to Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press, was presented at the First International Dada Fair in Berlin, 1920. The collage is made up of extracts from daily newspapers, coloured stains, letters and digits, as are the pages of the Manual of Superdadism (HADO), which
were created daily in 1919 and 1920. Here Baader reuses slogans from leaflets he designed criticising the military regime of the German Empire and the support of the Church, thus questioning the raie of spirituality in society.
