ln the spirit of his mobiles, such as Two Birds in Flight, Calder made Suspended Clouds for the main auditorium of the University City of Caracas.
Venezuelan architect Carlos Villanueva made the Caracas University halls of residence a manifesto of the synthesis of the arts. He commissioned 24 international artists to create some hundred sculptures, mosaics and mural frescoes that contributed to ma king the project a "total work of art". Among the artists approached, we find Alexander Calder, Victor Vasarely and Henri Laurens. Villanueva was considered by André Bloc to be "a sympathising members of the Groupe Espace".
