The Philharmonie Hall sums up the architectural concerns of Barozzi and Veiga.
The building sits on the historie site of the "Konzerthaus", the old concert hall designed by Franz Schwechten in 1884 and destroyed during the Second World War. The Philharmonie Hall was designed in an expressionist style and contrasts with its immediate surroundings. With a nod to the stepped gable architecture of Hanseatic houses, the geometric volumes create a new rhythm in the urban space. The apparent austerity of the building contrasts with the exuberant interior, particularly in the large symphony hall designed as a sculptural object. The Philharmonie Hall won the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2015.
