This museum combines old and contemporary history and embodies the firm's exploration of the notion of site and its architectural implications.
The Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts (MCBA) in Lausanne is built on the site of a former locomotive depot that has been replaced by a space housing three new museums. Traces of the site's industrial past have been preserved: the old arch of the hall was integrated into the design, the building's forms reflect those of the original warehouse, the metric flow driven by the rhythm of the facade overlooking the public space evokes the speed of the trains and the use of bricks as a material is a reference to the original design.
