Tasca che punge
(Poche grattante)
2007
Beneath a poetic and humorous surface, this artwork evokes the topic of immigration.
Having grown up in communist Romania, Mircea Cantor has developed a lucid and open-minded vision of the world. He highlights the flaws of the latter, caused by neoliberalism and globalisation. Poche grattante [ltching Pocket] was created for the artist's first personal exhibition in ltaly and reminds us of the aesthetics of the Arte Povera. lt is made of an Armani trouser -a symbol of the luxury industry- which is hanging from a laundry line with its pockets filled with soil and nettles. The artwork is an allegory of the situation of Romanian immigrants in ltaly, lack of money, uprooting and wandering.
