"All phenomena can be experienced in two ways. These two ways are not linked arbitrarily to the phenomena - they follow from the nature of the phenomena, from two of their properties: Exterior - lnterior." (Kandinsky)
During his years teaching at the Bauhaus, Kandinsky produced a multiplicity of small paintings in which he elaborated an artistic vocabulary based on geometrical elements and the expressiveness of colour, as evidenced in the title of this work. The reappearance of more or less figurative symbols (a candelabra, a hot-air balloon or a tree) is no doubt not unrelated to the artist's friendship with Paul Klee, also a teacher at the Bauhaus.
