2005
Carpenter explores the contemporary art world in his paintings, like in this case where he questions the very conditions of the production of works.
Made in USA is part of a series for which the artist asked the staff of his gallery Reena Spaulings to paint abstract patterns based on images of the collapse of the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001. Over the top of each canvas, the artist reproduced a recent press article on an exhibition at the gallery. For the presentation of the series at Reena Spaulings, Carpenter stacked the paintings against the wall. The collection constitutes a full press review of the gallery from the previous year.
