Flavin uses light to modify the physical perception of space in an approach typical of minimal art.
Dan Flavin mainly works with ?uorescent tubes to compose light paintings that question the traditional de?nition and limits of the work. This corner sculpture is a reference to the paintings by the Russian Constructivist Kasimir Malevich, which Flavin considered "icons". The neon lights not only illuminate the space delimited by the tubes, but also the area where the spectator walks, thus modifying the de?ned space which becomes immaterial.
