Linoleum
1966
Featuring Trisha Brown, Robert Breer, Steve Paxton, Axel Hay, Deborah Hay and Rauschenberg himself, Linoleum is one of nine performance works the artist created in the 1960s. The political mood of the piece (of opposition to the Vietnam War), its strange mixture of the trivial and the absurd, and above all the collage-like superimposition of photographs at very different scales, all these tend to make Linoleum less a film than a combination of screened images through time, a curious visual invention intended to bring together art and life.
