The Phoenix and the Mountain #2
1980
Bogat's work associates the rigour of formal geometry with a spiritual energy, nourished by the symbols gathered along her travels.
ln the late 1970s, Regina Bogat developed an interest in Tibetan Buddhism, Tao philosophy and pilgrimages to the sacred mountains of China. In 1977, she travelled to Peru with her husband, ailing from cancer, and the couple discovered the Nazca Lines. She then produced The Phoenix and the Mountain series, in which a bird evoking the mysterious geoglyphs seems to fly towards the sides of a mountain. The ropes and wooden rads framing these motifs embody Bogat's continual exploration of associations between painting and sculpture.
