Life after 1945 (Faces) (adjusted to fit)
2006 - 2015
Since the early 1980s, Louise Lawler has photographed works of art in private and public collections, reframing them to highlight the system of presentation: plinth, label, wall-finish... Life after 1945 (faces) (adjusted to fit), 2006/2007/2015 continues this interrogation of the image of the artwork and the status conferred on it by its place of exhibition. Installed in the form of a dislocated trompe-l’oeil exhibit that varies in size with the exhibition space, this work brings together images of Gerhard Richter’s painting Herr Heyde and of a portrait of Marylin Monroe by Andy Warhol.
