Once there was a little boy and everything turned out alright. THE END
(Il était une fois un petit garçon et tout est bien qui finit bien. FIN)
1993
This two-line sentence written in blue evokes a story that ends well for a boy. The pink colour of the wall can question us on the fate of the girls.
Beginning in the late 1970s, Louise Lawler cast a detached eye over the context of production and exhibition for artworks. Due to her conceptual approach, she is associated with the appropriationist artists of the "Picture Generation". This short text appeared in several forms in her work from 1985 onward. In 2020, the artist proposed a new version of it: she distorted the design of the text to reflect the uncertainty of our fates in an unstable world.
