Lampe de table à potence
1923
Abandoning classic lampshades, Chareau uses alabaster plates to diffuse dim light.
Metalworker Louis Dalbet made the base and structure while allowing for the size and adjustability of the alabaster. The use of sheets of gypsum meant that only simple geometric shapes could be cut. This table lamp features a pair of "quarter circle" plates. The base, a folded strip of metal, gives stability that allows for movement: rotating the electric diffuser mechanism, moving it along the bracket, rotating the arm while keeping the base in the same position.
