Bureau marqueté
1919
At this time, Chareau was already designing furniture that was different from that of "decorators".
The smooth surfaces, sharp angles and geometrical planes of each constituent element of this piece of furniture are a perfect match for the new space. The only concession to the simplicity of style: bronze pulls for the drawers and chrome-plated metal balls for the legs. A legged extension can be pulled out of the desk to act as a writing table. Like the other furniture in this ensemble, its structural framework is made of mahogany and the inlay is Macassar ebony. This wood, which lends a certain elegance to the desk, does not render it less functional. This desk was later included in the Maison de Verre, in which Jean Dalsace, on becoming a doctor, established his consulting rooms.
