Révolte
1964
Révolte is representative of hypergraphic painting, which explores the artistic potentialities of linguistic signs.
The sign became the repository of secret matters and meanings, as if rolled up in themselves inside a canvas. The canvas became the palimpsest of artistic experimentations that seemed to summon up the matterist effects dear to the artists of Art Informel, in vogue at the time. Maurice Lemaître joined Lettrism in 1950. He very quickly engaged in pictorial practice, becoming one of the group's most prolific visual artists, along with Roland Sabatier.
