Acrobate bleu
novembre 1929
Here, the theme of the acrobat is represented by a weightless creature defying gravity.
ln 1928, Pablo Picasso started a series of swimmers and acrobats. He was interested in the distortion and malleability of the body, which he explored with different techniques. This form, traced with charcoal and filled in with blue paint, stands out on the canvas that is left unpainted. The sketched lines of the painting's initial drafts reinforce the evocation of the acrobat' s aerial, dynamic movement. With this organic figure, bearing a head and strangely stretched tentacles, Picasso captures the power of the metamorphosis of the human body in a style that translates the fleeting influence of Surrealism.
