At a time when statues of controversial figures are often damaged, this work invites the viewer to reflect on history, memory and symbols.
After the fall of the communist regime, Romanian artists were no longer obliged to serve the purposes of propaganda and could create freely, leading Muresan to question the role of the artist in society. He reproduced here a statue of Lenin that had been taken down in Bucharest. Starting with a miniature copy, he created a mould and gradually enlarged it until he reached the size of the original statue. The process of reproduction and enlargement creates deformations that make the figure appear almost monstrous.
