Devotional Placards

Through this work, Boyce creates a performance of collective remembrance.

Devotional Placards is a series of 100 placards fixed to wooden stakes positioned along her Devotional Wallpaper. The placards are made in the same form as those brandished during demonstrations, but the usual political slogans have been replaced by images from the Devotional Collection, an archive of sounds and documents dedicated to the collective memory of black women from the British music scene, which the artist adds to over time through projects and encounters.
