The Durand-Desserts also defended artists on the French art scene, as was the case for Tatah, who exhibited at the gallery in 1999 and 2001.


Rather than painting specific people, Djamel Tatah has explored generic representations of human beings. His works feature life-size figures, framed from various angles and in ordinary situations or with reference to current affairs. He creates his portraits from photographs that he projects onto the canvas and then traces the outlines. This man who appears to be sleeping evokes solitude within a hyper-connected world.
