"Here I noted every Monday over a period of 80 years. To find out if there were any links between these dates, I noted them in magic squares. I also drew a boat. That way, when lite is too sad, I can embark on it and get away."
George Widener joined the US Air Force as a specialist technician in 1979. After a period of psychological problems, he was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. The artistic work that has occupied him since illustrates his extraordinary memory and gift for arithmetic in the form of calendars, diagrams and magic squares drawn in ink amid depictions of his favourite subjects: cities, planes and boats. The latter sometimes refer to historical events such as the sinking of the Titanic.
