Sunday's Crash
vers 2000
"Some people go to church on Sunday while others catch a plane. Sometimes, they end up praying at the exact same second because the plane is about to crash."
George Widener joined the US Air Force as a specialist technician in 1979. After a period of psychological problems, he was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. The artistic work that occupied him since illustrates his extraordinary memory and gift for arithmetic in the form of calendars, diagrams and magic squares drawn in ink amid depictions of his favourite subjects: boats and planes. In Sunday's Crash, he lists 31 Sundays on which air accidents occurred and establishes links between past dates and events in those of the future in the hope of better understanding and ordering the chaos of the world.
