Still Not Still

With Still Not Still, Ligia Lewis develops a choreography for seven dancers in response to the historical marginalisation of black and non-Western people.
Ligia Lewis uses darkness as a site of critical imagery and imagination. Using the medieval form of the lament (a repetitive musical wailing) and combining comedy and tragedy, Ligia Lewis creates a singular, poetic theatrical language. Drawing on black humour and surrealist references, she opposes any illusion of historical progress. Ligia Lewis imagines a world suspended in time, a world at a standstill.
Can we consign a history that is full of gaps and holes to the past - particularly for those who are not included? Can history, or rather a certain version of it, be annihilated, laid out like a corpse and stripped of all rationality?
History as we know it is flawed and inadequate, shaped by the victors. What might emerge from the ashes? Still Not Still is the result of these questions.
