Whether on an individual or collective level, people launch themselves in movement, become politically engaged, take their stance and claim their right to be heard, which is not necessarily given to them.
Jérémy Leroux, Un Cinéma dans la Ville, France, 2018, colour, 9 min
It seemed appropriate to us to start these sessions with a short film about a cinema located in the suburbs, the Trianon in Romainville in Seine-Saint-Denis. This iconic cinema hosted the TV show La Dernière Séance with Eddy Mitchell. The film is based on action behind the scenes; the work of the rigorous and passionate team.
Cinélutte - Jean-Pierre Thorn, La Grève des Ouvriers de Margoline
France, 1973, black and white , 40 min
On 21 May 1973, in Nanterre and Gennevilliers, 52 Margoline workers went on strike. Without showers, changing rooms, gloves, or work overalls, they worked twelve hours per day loading and unloading bales of paper. The film focuses on these undocumented immigrant workers.
Pier Emanuel Petit, Madame Lee
France, 2014, colour, 33 min
In Montreuil, on the edge of a small, ordinary housing estate, shines a small Korean restaurant run by a feisty, attentive woman, Madame Lee: “I am a sociologist and I chose to be a cook.”
Anna Salzberg and Mehdi Ahoudig, On Ira à Neuilly Inch’Allah
France, 2015, black and white, 20 min
This is the story of a protest by young Vélib’ workers who learn to fight back and try to organise. It is the story of a conflict between image and sound. It is a journey between the northern and western suburbs, via the capital.
With Alice Diop, Jérémy Leroux, Pier Emanuel Petit, Jean-Pierre Thorn and Anna Salzberg (to be confirmed)
