L’Aurore, chant pour deux humains[Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans] is considered Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's masterpiece. Shot on his arrival in the USA in 1927, L’Aurore kindles a forest of signs, chromos and completely new techniques. The city rises up in the middle of the countryside; the comic mingles with the monstrous, superimpositions with cuts, realism with the fantastic. Murnau never decided on a precise musical score to accompany the image of a drama that screams and whispers in turn. Composer Helmut Oehring rises to the challenge of a melodrama in a way that reflects the intentions of the film with Sept chants pour l’aurore[Seven Songs for Sunrise] performed by the vocalist David Moss, a chamber ensemble and the Sine Nomine quartet.
