Toyo Ito founded his own office, Urban Robot (URBOT), in 1971, renamed Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects. Recognised as one of the most important architects of his generation, he has designed numerous public and private projects in Japan and other countries. The Sendai media library constructed in 2001 is one of his most representative works and has influenced the young generation of architects across the world. Several of his buildings have received national and international awards. His work has been published and widely exhibited all over the world.
