Ryoji Ikeda
Superposition
14 - 16 Nov 2012
The event is over
The Japanese musician and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda explores the way we understand the reality of nature on the atomic scale. Inspired by the mathematical concepts of quantum mechanics, he applies the "superposition principle" which shows that a particle can exist simultaneously in multiple probable and uncertain states, and that different configurations of the world can thus be superposed. For the first time, he takes over the stage and has two performers moving around on it. Using a score for unconventional instruments, they produce actions and sound that generate video images transmitted in real time on 21 screens installed on the stage. Superposition questions the boundaries between music, the visual arts and the performing arts and explores the synergies that exist between arts and science.
