Alfred Manessier
Dations et Dons aux collections nationales
21 Jun - 11 Sep 2006
The event is over
The work of the painter Alfred Manessier (1911-1993), often described as 'mystical', tends towards a timeless and universal dimension. Interiorising the spectacle of the world, observing the richness of the light that suffuses landscapes, Manessier invented and developed an abstract pictorial language that is intense and terse and seeks to pierce to the essential and the mystery of beings and things.
The Musée possesses a large collection of works by Manessier, thanks to acquisitions by the state and large-scale donations made by the artist and his family, completed in 1994 and 2003 by two dations from the painter's heirs and a recent donation of 16 works on paper. The exhibition pays homage to this major figure of the School of Paris.
