The Bird Walker
1970
This work is characteristic of Noël's American period, during which he increasingly structured and constructed his compositions.
Georges Noël is an important figure of French abstraction of the latter half of the 20th century. His beginnings were marked by informal art, gestural painting, matterism and the influence of Jean Dubuffet. From 1969 to 1983, he lived in the USA where his painting was transformed and engaged in a dialogue with geometry. The forms in his works became more refined and clear-cut, as can be seen in The Bird Walker, in which faded green and blue lines criss-cross against an infinite white background.
