Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza explores subjects such as frontiers, maps, migrations, the history and memory of places and the people who pass through them.
For this series, the artist used a long exposure time to photograph videos from surveillance cameras projected on a screen. By means of this process, the characters moving in the videos are erased, leaving only melancholy landscapes. They are in tact migrants attempting to cross frontiers. Although the purpose of the videos is to incriminate the people filmed, the artist makes their bodies disappear. Giving way to ghostly presences, they restore the protection of anonymity to the migrants.
