Native Flower, Prometheus blooms
2018
Banerjee draws on both Asian and Western cultures and on many influences from her dual training in science and art.
Rina Banerjee' s fascination for plural identities is fueled by both mythology and anthropology in her world view. This sculpture of a flower uses many different materials, evoking blooming as well as female genitalia and its potential for pleasure. She invokes Prometheus for his fire, which is also a source of life. The work contains different stories of creation, with which Banerjee crafts contemporary tales of diversity as well as physical and spiritual dialogues.
